About the Campaign
I got persuaded to start training for a trail ultra, and I thought if I’m going to do this I should fund raise. This is what happened with my first marathon, and my first triathlon (a half ironman), which were also the first races I entered outside of high school athletics! I’m a bit of an extremist. So I decided to keep the tradition going and enter a big distance to try and raise money for NZST.
I think it was partly Mum working there and my early involvement, but also knowing what limitations come with SCI and how I might feel if I ever had a spinal injury and wasn’t able to run again – that was what drove the first marathon fundraiser.
Some would say I’m slightly nutty and stubborn maybe?? Definitely determined and will see something through when I’ve committed to a cause. Mother of two. Yes, exhausted…
NZST is such a great cause, that I really do believe in … I’d love to blow my target right out of the water! Please help me by making a donation – they all add up! 🙂
The race is on March 26th 2022 – Noosa’s epic Hinterland Traverse 100km course through five National Parks, State Forests and Reserves.
UPDATE:
Keeping up the training – and taking less time to recover now so it’s looking good. But I’m about to kick in with strength and speed training so we’ll see how I feel after that 🙂 Also looking good is the fundraising – thanks to everyone who’s supported so far and helped me pass my initial goal. So now I’m 1000% fully committed – there’s no turning back … think I’ll up the ante a little and increase the goal to $1,000. Let’s go! 🙂
AND ANOTHER UPDATE:
Wow! Despite pandemics and floods the training continues … and so do the donations 🙂 Everyone’s being so generous – thanks so much! This is more than I’ve managed to raise (I think) in the past so I’m well pleased! But there’s no time to rest on my laurels – I need to keep up the training, and I’m going to up the target one more time too. It’s ambitious, but I’m going for $2,000 … when you break it down, that’s $20 per kilometre – a bargain! 😉
FINAL COUNTDOWN UPDATE:
I’ve been and checked in for the race, picked up my race bag, got first dibs on T shirt colour, and checked a few details, meanwhile laughing with the volunteers at something so silly as running 100km.
I can’t pretend it’s not happening any more. I have had a few moments of realising the ludicrous nuttosity I have signed myself up for.
But I’m thrilled that we have raised so much for the NZST – huge, HUGE thanks to everyone who’s been so generous in their support 🙂
