TEAM TARGET: $50,000

NZST offers emotional and practical support to over 200 individuals who experience a new SCI each year, as well as their whānau. Our team embodies a tangible, inspiring, and believable glimpse of positive futures beyond the injury. This support begins in the Spinal Unit and continues out in the community.

We are super excited to have our biggest team yet taking part in the TONZ and raising funds for NZ Spinal Trust.

This Tour has the potential to change lives. All money raised will support our Community Peer & Whānau Support service, so we’re aiming for a combined target of $50,000 (or more if we can do it!)

  1. Arron and Kelly’s Tarawera 100

On February 14th 2026, we’re running the Tarawera 100 – a 100 MILE ultra-marathon.  Are we crazy? Maybe … This is the biggest run we’ve ever done … and will probably ever do. We’re feeling a mix of nerves and anticipation as we step into this adventure, fully aware it will be a genuine test of our resilience. Arron, who worked at the New Zealand Spinal Trust (NZST) in the early 2000s, witnessed extraordinary courage and determination from individuals navigating life with acquired spinal cord injuries. That experience left a lasting impression. This journey is our way of supporting the…

  2. Steve’s Kopiko Adventure

Starting 25th January 2026 I’ll be riding the Kopiko Aotearoa Trail – from East Cape to Cape Egmont … over 1,000 kms! I’m taking on this adventure to raise money for NZST in gratitude for the support I’ve received. I had a tumour surgically removed from inside my spinal cord in 2022. Something before, during or after surgery affected my spinal cord and I ended up in Burwood Spinal Unit for close to four months while managing bowel bladder and mobility problems. I was discharged from Burwood in a wheelchair and now I’m able to walk without aids…that’s the condensed…

  3. Matthew’s Half Ironman

I will be completing a half iron man on 13th of July in the UK. My dad Stephen Boobyer was in a motor bike accident and he is in a wheelchair now with limited movement. I’m dedicating my race to raising funds for the New Zealand Spinal Trust, which supports Burwood Spinal Unit and others living with spinal injuries. They aren’t government-funded and rely on donations from people like you and me to continue their life-changing work.

    $600.00 donated of $1,000.00 goal
  4. Nicola Collins -Queenstown Marathon – Saturday 15th November 2025

    Queenstown Marathon – Saturday 15th November 2025

In 2001, I had a paragliding accident in Queenstown that left me with two broken vertebrae, a shattered pelvis, and a severed spinal cord. I was 12 at the time, a lucky factor that meant I was eventually able to walk again, albeit with a limp due to neurological damage affecting my right leg. I am now 36, and although I am impaired by my injuries, I have still managed to live a relatively normal life. Last year I set myself the goal of walking 10km in the Queenstown Marathon, which I completed. This year, I have put together a…

  5. Tristen’s Year-long Ironman Challenge

My name is Tristen. My challenge is doing the Ironman 70.3 on 7 March 2026. I’m doing this challenge for those who can’t participate in sport who had dreams and ambitions to do sport. While doing this I’ll be sharing my journey and all its highs and lows, from training to nutrition, and raise lots of money for NZST. A bit about me: I’m very passionate about sports and endurance sports in particular, and have been doing sport my whole life, and that spreads from rugby, cricket, athletics, obstacle course racing, trail running, CrossFit and now triathlons. (I’m also a…

  6. Arapuke Awesome’25

They’re back – more awesome and crazy than ever! Mark, Brenton, Chris, Dave and Andy – with Hans, CEO of NZST and a heap of willing supporters – are ready to take on the bonkers challenge that is Arapuke Awesome … a 24 hour marathon riding the trails of Arapuke Mountain Bike Park in Palmerston North. Why? Because six years ago Mark’s son Jayden was riding these same trails when a freak accident left him a T12 para using a wheelchair. And Mark and his mates want to give back to the Trust that supported Jayden and the whole whānau…
