Meeting Hans Wouters, CEO of the NZ Spinal Trust, was a spark. We were speaking at a Dynamic Controls event, and Hans shared his philosophy on leadership – leading with love.
That stuck with me. ‘Me’ being Liz Foxwell-Canning.
Back in 2010, I slipped three discs. Since then, I’ve lived with varying levels of pain. But I’m lucky – I have a pretty normal life, no sympathy needed. Over the years, I’ve built a toolkit to manage the pain, and one unexpected tool that’s changed everything? Fasting.
I’ve been doing intermittent fasting for years. More recently, I added a weekly 40-hour fast. It’s been transformative—not just physically, but mentally. The science backs it up. So do my reduced pain levels.
Then one rainy May morning, walking from Papamoa Beach to the Mount, an idea hit me: what if I pushed myself further? A 72-hour fast. And what if I used that to raise money for NZ Spinal Trust?
I asked Hans if he’d join me. He said yes without hesitation. So I thought about all of the other CEOs I knew who might be keen. And then I realised – it’s not just about CEOs. It’s for anyone willing to push beyond their comfort zone for a great cause.
And so, the CE72 was born.
Now, we’re raising funds, testing limits, and rallying a brilliant crew of challengers. Want in?
